Since 2005, Stéphan Daigle original style and approach has been devoted to the development of a series of paintings and prints.
The Québec artist’s creations, especially in the field of illustration, are proposed as allegories, weaving an interconnected network of cross-cultural symbols. Each piece imparts a deep reverence for life in its many manifestations that may be related to the historic background of the French Canadian who are, for the vast majority, partly of native origin.
Stéphan Daigle’s significant body of work on canvas and paper is characterized by a very assertive detailed graphic style who is frequently juxtaposed on raw gestural and dynamic contextual background. The tension between both treatments and the metaphorical space those works of art open in the mind of spectators are one of the main characteristics of the artist signature. In his recent graphic production, Stéphan Daigle integrate paintings, drawings, digitally modified photographies and paint textures to create the equivalent tension in his art prints.
Recently, the artist has begin to transfer his linear designs in the third dimension to create sculptures, opening an all new domain to his creativity.
Here are a few lines that give an overview of the artist conception of his work.
In art as in science, it is by building new bridges between previously separate realities that the practitioner finds the meaning of his research. But the search for the artist turned inward. First quest of the self, art becomes self-creation. Acting in the deeper layers of the psyche, the artwork develop a tremendous potential for transmutation.
All artwork is the mirror of the mind of its creator. Art is an invitation to look beyond appearances, a call for the recreation of the self and, through it, the recreation of the world.
