Born in Montréal, in 1951, visual artist Stéphan Daigle has earned an international reputation for the work he has done as an illustrator since the 1980s. His creations, which have been exhibit in Tokyo, Paris, London, New York, Los Angeles, Toronto and Montréal, have received several international awards and nominations. Some of his work has been included in public and corporate collections.
Since 2005, Stéphan Daigle original style and approach has been devoted to the development of a series of paintings and prints.
The Québec artist’s creations, especially in the field of illustration, are proposed as allegories, weaving an interconnected network of cross-cultural symbols. Each piece imparts a deep reverence for life in its many manifestations that may be related to the historic background of the French Canadian who are, for the vast majority, partly of native origin.
Stéphan Daigle’s significant body of work on canvas and paper is characterized by a very assertive detailed graphic style who is frequently juxtaposed on raw gestural and dynamic contextual background.
